Fable 5 stays in Max and Team Premium at half limits; Pro gets a $100 credit

From July 20, Claude Fable 5 is included in Max and Team Premium plans at 50% of limits. Pro and Team Standard stay on usage credits at $10/$50 per million tokens, softened by a one-time $100 credit.

Anthropic settled the Fable 5 question, at least for the top tiers. Starting July 20, Claude Fable 5 is included in every Max and Team Premium plan at 50% of limits. Pro and Team Standard don’t get it back in the subscription: access there stays on prepaid usage credits at $10 per million input tokens and $50 out, softened by a one-time $100 credit. Anthropic’s explanation is the one you’d expect: demand “has been challenging to predict,” so it rolled the model out in stages and extended access “several times” while it secured capacity.

That undersells how much this month wobbled. Fable was supposed to leave paid plans entirely on July 7, then July 12 after subscriber pushback, and the window kept sliding after that. What lands on July 20 is a reversal of the original plan (the model stays in subscriptions) welded to a two-tier split (only the $100-and-up subscriptions count). And read the fine print on “50% of limits”: The Decoder notes the bonus-usage phase ends the same day and baseline limits drop by roughly a third, so it is half of a smaller number.

If you’re on Pro, do the math before you celebrate the credit. At Fable prices, $100 is about two million output tokens, a week or two of real coding work if you’re careful. This also landed the same week Kimi K3 beat Fable 5 on the Frontend Code Arena at $3 and $15 per million, with the weights promised for July 27. The frontier is getting cheaper and more open everywhere except your Claude plan, and Anthropic picked a strange week to answer that with a smaller ration and a coupon.
